Florence Nightengale was a pioneer in the healthcare industry for all who wanted to help others. There are eight essential characteristics of cultural ownership that she felt healthcare workers needed to possess.
- Commitment which is the quality of being dedicated to a cause, or activity. Here as nursing assistants, you would be taking care of patients who cannot care for themselves. Making them comfortable and giving them the respect they deserve as individuals.
- Engagement is the action of participation. Here you will be learning and receiving the knowledge to help others through your education and hands on learning through your skills. Remember to become an expert in what you love to do, actual practice must be done to achieve.
- Passion is to have a strong feeling for something that as an individual where you pursue your goals with energy and dedication. Here as nursing assistants, you are on the journey that can take you further on with a professional foundation for protecting life and promoting health and well-being.
- Initiative is you as an individual taking the opportunity, that first step, to join the nursing assistant program acting on your passion and looking to make a change with in your life and that of others.
- Stewardship is your careful and responsible management of your patients that you are entrusted to care for. Respecting each person as an individual.
- Belonging is to be a member of a team that supports you. Learning to work with others by giving respect and loyalty to your classmates, patients, coworkers, employers and any facilities of employment. Right now, you are a member who belongs to the CNA Bootcamp.
- Fellowship is where a group of people have a shared interest or common goal. All of you will learn to help preserve life, ease patients’ distress and help in the restoring of health and well-being.
- Pride is a feeling of satisfaction from your own achievements, while building your goal of self-worth and accomplishments. I always had a great satisfaction at the end of my shift, knowing that I was helping patients become better, more comfortable and pain free. Giving new nurses the educational and bedside nursing foundation to be able to take care of others promoting health and well-being. I was gifted with such a wonderful reward and honored to be able to do this.
Based on the fundamental values of a Nursing assistant you will develop your self-worth, dignity and individual uniqueness to provide good health practices to others while keeping your own good health.
