My blog this time is about who inspires and influences you to become a better person both personally and professionally.
As I was going through my college papers for research of my blog, I came across this essay I wrote on who inspires me to be a leader and continue with my own personal journey. I wanted to share it with you.
A leader is a person who influences others towards an achievement of a goal. Leadership is known as the activity of human engagement and the relationship founded in trust, inspiration, communication, and action.
In my personal life, I can think of two people to start that have influenced me to be the person that I am today—and that is my parents. Without their love, support, and understanding, I would not be who I am today. They both instilled in me the values of trust and respect, and to have moral judgment for doing the right thing, and to believe in yourself and always follow your heart to make a difference within your own life as well as others.
Another person in my personal life that has influenced me has been my cousin Rosemarie, who happens to be a pediatric nurse as well as a college professor for nurses in the clinical realm. Growing up and listening to her talk about her patients and taking care of those in need influenced me to want to be a nurse. The passion that she spoke gave me the desire to pursue my career.
By becoming the nurse that I am today, I was able to be a leader and advocate for my mother. She was very ill when I was younger, and my knowledge helped to ease her during this time, until her passing. She gave me insight to know that no matter what adversity life gives you, you take one day—or I should say moment—at a time, and do the right thing by yourself and others, and you will be rewarded tenfold in return.
A professional leader in my life would be that of some of my coworkers that I have had the pleasure to work with over the years—who had the passion to take care of their patients, but not only to have it as a job, but to pursue and go further as a career. They showed me by continuing with my education and attending conferences so that I could better myself and keep abreast of updated information. To treat each and every individual with the utmost of respect no matter who they may be.
Every individual that has proven to be a leader in my life has given me the capabilities of being the leader that I am today. Their leadership abilities made it much easier for me to take care of my family, my patients, and to be able to instill my respect and values in others as I have been given. I am now a preceptor of new nurses and hope to instill within them the same values—trust and respect—that I was so fortunate to have received.
This has been a true statement my whole life. Through every journey that I took, whether it be personal or professional, the experience I gained has brought me to this point in life and share with you. Even though I am retired from bedside nursing, I have been given the ability to write and give you valuable education and learnings to help you throughout your journey and professional career. May your days be filled with enlightenment, knowledge, and a caring heart for others’ well-being.
